Eleven

Fiction doesn’t write itself. But then, neither do blog updates.

The clock strikes eleven. It’s November already. How can a lockdown, as lugubrious as it is, seem like it’s going quickly? It might just be looking back—that it feels like it’s been years in the span of months, and that has me feeling older. I’ve also been busy, though, and I have plenty to share that I’m proud of.

First, the bigger news:

Since July, I’ve been working with Stanion Studios on their up-and-coming title, TideTurn. The project is now at a state where they’re ramping up some of their marketing efforts and I can start to talk a little bit about my involvement in the project.

In short, I’ve been working on our character bios & in-game dialogue, as well as storybording post-launch singleplayer content. It’s been a busy project, and I’ve had to wear a lot of hats that touch on bits of design and production, but I’m happy with the work I’ve put into it.

I’m looking forward to players getting their hands on the game and hearing how they respond to the characters and storylines I’ve worked so hard on.

Some Spooks

This October, some friends and I participated in a homebrew Halloween-themed game jam. We initially gave ourselves a week, then took a second to polish off some rough edges.

We decided to roll with a first person adventure game themed around a Lovecraftian haunted house, and I had a lot of fun piecing together background lore and some of the in-game letters players can discover.

Osseux & the Near-Future

My last two posts (back in May) focused on a solo project I was experimenting with, by the name of Osseux. It’s still in the works, but it’s very much on the backburner. I had a good amount of success using Fungus to get the core mechanics working, but I felt my initial story concept needed a rewrite and I haven’t yet found the time. There’s still a lot of work to be done on TideTurn and I’m currently prepping for a move.

As tense of a time as this is, it’s also an exciting one; I’m always looking out for new opportunities and creative avenues to explore.
